Star Donut Plushies

Description

After learning to make a donut plushie at PMX 2013, I have been planning to make a few more of my own.  Here are some types of donut plushies I made for gifts: star-shaped donut, donut with star icing, and an Invincible Star (from the Super Mario Brothers series) donut.

These are the steps I took for the star donut plushie:
1) Trace and cut out the star donut shape from two pieces of brown felt and one piece of antique white felt.
2) Stitch the 3 pieces of felt together at the donut's center.
3) Sew on the beads.
4) Stitch the side of the donut partway.
5) Stuff the donut with old scraps of fabric.
6) Finish sewing the donut up.

These are the steps I went through for the donut with star icing:
1) Cut out the donut shape from two pieces of brown felt and one piece of yellow felt.
2) Since the icing was yellow, I decided to cut it into a star shape.
3) Stitch the 3 pieces of felt together at the donut's center.
4) Secure the icing layer onto the middle layer.
5) Sew the tiny beads on.
6) Stitch the side of the donut partway.
7) Stuff the donut with scraps of felt and old torn clothing.
8) Finish sewing the donut up.

Here are the steps I took ffor the Invincible Star donut plushie:
1) Trace and cut out the star donut shape from two pieces of brown felt and one piece of yellow felt.
2) Stitch the 3 pieces of felt together partway.
3) Sew on the buttons for the eyes.
4) Stuff the donut with old scraps of fabric.
5) Finish sewing the donut up.

It was a big struggle cutting three pieces of felt at once, especially since I can't cut straight.  The center hole was the hardest to cut, and the star shape added to the difficulty.  Due to that and my poor judgement, the shapes turned out very lopsided and messy.  Why didn't I think about downloading and making a decent star template to trace onto the felt at first? My terrible sewing caused the stitches to be very messy and uneven.

Other things adding to the difficulty were my lack of supplies, tools, and equipment.  Due to financial and space constraints, I don't have a sewing machine, fabric-marking tools, or much variety in color for the felt and beads.  I am really sorry for this piece of trash.

Disclaimer: The Super Mario Brothers series belongs to Nintendo, not me.
